Research Information:

This is a compositional drawing for a watercolour exhibited at the Old Water-Colour Society in 1867, now lost. The design is much the same as in the finished watercolour (now lost - see 'Victorian Artist-Dreamer' page 84, fig. 66 for reproduction), except that the statue of Pan is omitted from the foreground, and more figures are introduced into the middle distance.
