Research Information:

Study of Anglo-Greek sculptress, Maria Zambaco, with whom Burne-Jones was romantically involved. This drawing was most likely for the first series of 'Pygmalion & the Image', which had been commissioned by the sitter's mother, Euphrosyne Ionides Cassavetti (currently in the Collection of Lord Lloyd-Webber).
