Research Information:

This is a drawing relating to the commission for Burne-Jones to produce a series of seven canvases to hang in the dining room of the watercolourist Myles Birket Foster. Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has more than sixty preparatory drawings for this which focused on the story of 'St George and the Dragon'. On the reverse is a slight perspective pencil sketch which may be for 'The Princess Chained to the Tree'.
