Research Information:

First artistic commission received by Burne-Jones for James Powell & Sons, one of the leading glass manufacturers of the time. Burne-Jones went on to produce four additional designs for that firm, for which all the cartoons (included that of The Good Shepherd), are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
This panel was installed as the centre light of the east window of the Congregational Church in Maidstone, Kent, which is now demolished.
